Nobody doubts that Belgian Red Cross-Flanders is pursuing a good cause. The heart of our organisation goes out to those in need. Humanity and solidarity are amongst our core values.
But in terms of internal organisation, non-profit organisations don’t differ much from traditional companies. Both work according to the familiar economic rule of ‘minimise input, maximise output’. Belgian Red Cross-Flanders is no exception when it comes to using all its available resources as efficiently as possible. It’s just that our goal is not to generate as much profit as possible, but to help as many people in need as possible.
‘Efficiency with a heart’, the title of this annual report, articulates the importance that Belgian Red Cross-Flanders attaches to efficient aid. The more efficiently our organisation works, the more people we can help. Efficiency – fast, high-quality and effective operations – is the resource that is indispensable in fulfilling our mission.
The heart of our organisation beats with enthusiasm. 14,000 volunteers and 1,300 employees work hard every day for those in need. Our impact, the number of people we help, increases with every passing year. We can therefore proudly conclude that 2007 was the best year ever for Belgian Red Cross-Flanders. When you read this annual report, you’ll understand why.
